The purpose of this research is to develop “Testing strategy for IoT based smart home application”. Testing IoT based application are one of the key challenges in IoT. Therefore, the objective of this research is to identify the challenges encountered in testing IoT based application and analyze the existing testing strategies and their limitations. The research emphasizes on application area of smart home. Consequently, the developed testing strategy will also be focused on addressing the challenges specifically for IoT based smart home application. The selected research philosophy for this research is pragmatism and the research approach is an deductive approach and the research choice used is qualitative method with structured interview as the data collection method.
The interviews were conducted using google form and LinkedIn. The interview results were analyzed using thematic analysis and deductive coding. Based on the analysis results, key findings were identified and by using these key findings and with the information obtain from literature review an testing strategy for IoT based smart home application was developed. The developed testing strategy was validated by conducting expert review. And based on the expert review result it is evident that the developed testing strategy is effective and efficient for testing IoT based smart home application Furthermore validation results conclude that the developed testing strategy is helpful and supportive for tester to testing IoT based smart home application and enable the testers to overcome the challenges encountered in testing smart home application and ease the testing process.
